The Low-Cost Unmanned Aerial Vehicle
The New AutoCopter is Setting the Standard in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
The AutoCopter is a self-stabilized unmanned mini-helicopter that can be used
as an aerial platform in the sky. For those wanting to perform aerial photography the helicopter will maintain stability
and position at whatever altitude (under 500 feet in the United States to stay within FAA regulations). A turnkey aerial
video system can be provided at additional cost.
The operator, without any helicopter piloting experience, can move the helicopter
(via the joysticks on the transmitter) forward, backward, sideways, and vertically. A computer program will also be
included to perform mission planning, on a laptop computer, within a 1.5 mile radius of the transmitter. The operator
will use the laptop software to construct a GPS waypoint grid over a map of the desired location. The GPS track coordinates
are then downloaded to the flight computer.
An autorotation flight mode is also part of the system in the event of in-flight
engine failure, the helicopter will be able to land itself with the engine off. A secondary backup system, in the form
of a deployable parachute is also integrated in the helicopter. The AutoCopter has a payload capacity of up
to 50 lbs. depending on the configuration.
